Portugal 2026/27 student visas: the 1st admitted-students list is out (Abuja)

The Embassy of Portugal in Abuja has published the 1st list of students admitted to Portuguese higher-education institutions for the 2026/2027 academic year (under Portaria n.º 111/2019). 313 students in the embassy's jurisdiction are on it.

If your name is on the list, you're formally invited to lodge your student visa application at a VFS Global centre - Abuja or Lagos:

Window: Mon-Fri, 22 June → 3 July 2026, 08:00-14:00
VFS Abuja: Sterling Bank Plaza, 3rd Floor, Plot 1083, Mohammadu Buhari Way, Central Business District
VFS Lagos: Purple Way, Freedom Way, Lekki
Bring the National Visa form + checklist, and confirm you have every document before you submit
Your criminal-record certificate is exempt from legalisation for this application
Applications are not taken at the Embassy's Consular Section - only at VFS
Reception closes 3 July 2026; late applications for this list won't be accepted

This is me Bragança on the list! Quick question - do we book the VFS slot online first, or just show up during the window? And is proof of accommodation required at submission?

Congrats! I did Lagos (Lekki) last year - get there for the 08:00 opening, the queue builds fast. Bring printed copies of everything plus the originals, and a photocopy of your passport bio page. Pick whichever centre is closer to you.

For those of us who applied but aren't on this 1st list - does that mean rejected, or is a 2nd list coming?

A few pointers for this intake:

Book your VFS appointment online for your centre (Abuja or Lagos) and submit within the 22 Jun - 3 Jul window; walk-ins aren't guaranteed.
Typical national (student) visa checklist: passport valid 3+ months beyond your stay (+ copies), 2 photos, your admission/enrolment letter, proof of accommodation in Portugal, proof of means of subsistence, travel/health insurance, criminal-record certificate (exempt from legalisation here), and the completed National Visa form.
Being on the 1st list is the scheduling step - the embassy usually publishes further lists, so not being on this one isn't necessarily a 'no'. Watch the embassy's Notícias page for updates.

Always confirm the exact checklist on the official notice before you travel to VFS.

Following up on my own question about a second list. The embassy published this yesterday: Suspensão temporária da receção de novos pedidos de visto, dated 20 July 2026.

From that date they have temporarily suspended the reception of new visa applications for Portugal through VFS Global in Abuja and Lagos. Applications submitted before then carry on being assessed, and passports and final decisions still come back through VFS. No reopening date is given, it holds until the embassy says otherwise.

So for those of us who were waiting to be scheduled, there is nothing to submit into at the moment.

Thanks for posting it. Worth separating two groups here, because the notice lands very differently on each.

If you submitted during the 22 June to 3 July window, applications lodged before 20 July continue to be assessed under the applicable rules, and passport return and the final decision still come through VFS Global. This notice does not cancel your file.

If you were still waiting to be scheduled, this is the group it actually stops. Reception of new applications is suspended and the notice gives no reopening date.

Two cautions before anyone draws conclusions. The notice does not break the suspension down by visa category and lists no exemptions, so do not assume either way about your exact case. It also says nothing about the admitted-students list, so keep your admission and your visa application separate in your head: nothing here says an admission has been withdrawn. For anything specific to your file, confirm with VFS or the embassy's consular section rather than with us.

The useful thing to do while it holds is finish the pack so you can lodge the day reception reopens. It is all in the documents thread. The reopening will be announced on the embassy's Notícias page, same place this came from.
